Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thanks to you, The Living Through Cancer Foundation continues to grow. In our fiscal year ending March 31, 2009 we reached more than 1300 cancer patients throughout Philadelphia, New Jersey and the Delaware Valley. We present workshops in hospitals and cancer centers, participate in breakout sessions at conferences and special cancer-related events, and sponsor on-site information sessions and programs at host facilities--all at no cost to patients and families.
Living Through Cancer's free support programs address numerous unmet psychosocial needs facing cancer patients and survivors today. Cancer is a life changing event--the disease and treatment often challenge the core of a patient's sense of self, physical appearance and emotional well-being. Studies show that a cancer diagnosis can result in marked psychological distress. Research shows both that the number of people living at least five years after a cancer diagnosis has increased over the past twenty years and that support services, such as those we provide, are desperately needed.
Living Through Cancer is working to meet the needs of patients, families and caregivers through innovative strategies that help to improve quality of life and restore hope. At the request of local hospitals, cancer centers, and patients themselves, we provide opportunities to meet others with similar concerns and to know that they are not alone in their journey.
Our cause and mission is supported through private contributions, grants, medical and support staff, and dedicated volunteers who give their time and talent to help improve the lives of cancer patients and their families. Please join us in this fight to help those in a time of need and uncertainty.
With gratitude,
John Luciano, Executive Director
